During the 2019 national championship game, the University of Alabama may have lost, but Jordain and Karl won. Alabama and Texas transplants, respectively, they were living in California and attended the game with mutual friends, and by the end of the night their connection was palpable.
A surprise engagement at a cabin in Tahoe, with family present, and complete shock for Jordain came in 2021. Soon after, they started dreaming up their destination wedding—at a ranch owned by Karl’s aunt and uncle. They wanted to create a unique Texas experience for their guests, that was equal parts timeless, inviting, elegant, and personalized.
It began with a more modern invitation, with lots of white space to make the dark green ink pop. Welcome bags continued that look, while also sharing some of the couple’s favorite snacks from Texas, from their go-to candies to the required Topo Chico, as well as a map suggesting places to visit in nearby Glen Rose.
Come the big day, everything was designed with shades of that deep evergreen first seen on the invite, as well as natural tones befitting a November wedding date. Plus, dark red was a way of honoring their love of Alabama Football. It wasn’t just about color though, as texture was an equally important element. In particular, the texture of pottery, which is something the bride loves and collects. Large pots were used in the ceremony setup, throughout the reception bud vases and floral vessels were all ceramic, and the cake was designed to replicate the look of pottery too. The paper stock even mimicked it thanks to its speckled appearance.
Matte earthenware plates were placed at each seat, and soon filled with a sentimental (and delicious) dinner. As is tradition for Jordain’s family Christmas meal, fried chicken and gravy was served. And for a Texas twist, a tamale cart serving up queso and the like was also on hand.
The couple’s tradition of picking up a magnet whenever they travel was also honored. Texas magnets were incorporated into the escort card display, giving each guest a magnet to start (or continue) collections of their own.
To end the night in a way that circled back to when they met, the newlyweds shared a private dance to Morgan Wallen’s “Had Me At Halftime,” but with the lyrics swapped to mention their beloved team. Roll Tide and happily ever after.
