Kandyce and Preston already had their venue chosen when we connected about their midsummer wedding. From the start, they wanted help in making the more rustic barn feel in line with the bride’s not-so-rustic style. Plus, they knew sorting out the logistics of it all was more than they could handle. I was happy to step in to create an event that was unique, elegant, and all the while still comfortable.
In getting to know Kandyce through the process of planning the celebration, I discovered she was drawn to bright colors. And since it was a July wedding, it felt like an opportunity to go for a more vibrant celebration. We wove in a lovely shade of lavender with the softer range of pinks and gold she also loved.
Those colors lent themselves perfectly to lots of fresh flowers. The ceremony arch flowed onto the floor to surround the couple. Kandyce’s bouquet was a beautiful mix of blooms like roses, ranunculus, lisianthus, and sweet peas. And then at the reception there were petite arrangements anchoring the tables as well as a 30-foot install hanging from the rafters.
It was all about balance but I also wanted to create a juxtaposition of materials. The barn’s interior boasts a lot of wood accents, but it was important to highlight them in an elevated way. Wood cross-back chairs helped tie those architectural details in without going overboard. And in addition to all the actual flowers, we selected a Monet-inspired fabric for the dinner napkins that brought all of the colors together.
Guests found their seats courtesy of a seating chart that played into one of the couple’s favorite past times—quite literally. I learned that they love playing board games and have a closet full of them at their home. So each guest received a mini board game (and many played them during cocktail hour) as their escort cards.
Rosé popsicles were a fun spin on the typical signature cocktail and also kept everyone cool during the hot weather that comes with a July wedding in Texas.
The night ended on a sweet note courtesy of a four-tier cake covered in buttercream with a lavender tier of ruffles and a cascade of flowers for a touch of femininity on the otherwise streamlined design.
