I always strive to create weddings that are accurate reflections of client’s hobbies, style & personality. I think by focusing on these elements, it creates experiences that feel unique and special to guests as well as to the couple themselves.
Kelly and John’s wedding was a great example of how we like to achieve this. It was such a fun wedding to design & plan. Not only because we got to work with a unique color scheme, but I loved her overall visions of the wedding being both romantic & modern. She described it as wanting the wedding to be elegant, but still have a laid back feeling so guests could be comfortable but still feel like they could let loose throughout the night.
I love creating weddings that reflect my couple’s style and personality but also their hobbies. Focusing on these elements creates experiences that feel unique and special to guests as well as to the couple themselves.
Kelly and John’s wedding was a great example. Their vision was that it would feel romantic, modern, and elegant, but also laid-back. They wanted everyone to feel really comfortable.
When we initially sat down in our consultation, Kelly mentioned that she knew she wanted a blush and mauve wedding. However, through the planning process and as I got to know her more, I learned about Kelly and John’s genuine love for football— specifically the Texas Longhorns and Auburn Tigers. I quickly decided to pay homage to this in the design; but without it feeling “theme-y.” By adding orange to the color scheme, it would add some dimension to their otherwise muted palette and honor something they love in a subtle way.
We also took this idea of guests feeling comfortable at the formal event when we chose the industrial venue and then decorated with mid-century modern rentals.
Brik Venue Wedding-Ceremony
Kelly and John’s ceremony was held on the second floor of Brik Venue with 150 of their family and friends. The altar featured two large floral arrangements on midcentury modern gold pedestals and I designed the aisle to have flower arrangements lining it. Since the groom loves to duck hunt, we still wanted to add some decor elements that reflected his style, so duck feathers were used in the boutonnieres (from ducks that he shot himself!).
After the ceremony, as the couple took pictures with their families, the guests enjoyed cocktail hour and found their seats thanks to ivory escort cards displayed on a custom installation copper ceiling tiles and greenery. To be honest, if I had to choose my favorite detail of the wedding, this would be it! (But I might be biased since it took me hours to create).
Brik Venue Wedding - Reception
As guests entered the ballroom for the reception, they found their seats at a mixture of long and round tables, each with a table number in a floating frame. The head table was placed perpendicularly to the dance floor in the center of the room and had four large floral centerpieces that filled the table, calligraphed tiles to denote seating assignments, and menus with chiffon ribbon and wax seals. The intention was for everyone to walk into the space and feel at home.
As the evening continued, the guests danced the night away with Dan Quinn Entertainment. And when it was time for the celebration to end, we lit sparklers, as the bride and groom got into the getaway car.
